Ivanhoe young gun Viv Blackmore-Moore’s breakout season reached a new high on Saturday (June 25) after he received a late call-up to debut for Collingwood’s VFL team.
Viv was originally named as an emergency by the Magpies, but a late change to their AFL line-up created an opening on the interchange.
With his mobile on loudspeaker, Collingwood’s VFL coach Craig Black called Viv at work on Friday afternoon to spring the surprise news.
Hoers coach and Collingwood development officer Ash Close recorded the magic moment.
Black: “Can you do us a favour, I need you to ring Moose (Close) and let him know you can’t play for them tomorrow.”
Viv gasps: “Oh … you beauty!”
Ash chimes in: “You don’t need to ring me.”
Viv was presented with the number 67 jumper on Saturday morning and given a role to play off the bench as a high forward against Brisbane at the AIA Centre.
He repaid their faith, booting two goals in the first half.
A live stream of the match was eagerly followed by mates and supporters at Ivanhoe Park.
Images of Viv snapping a goal and celebrating were published on Collingwood VFL’s Twitter feed.
Viv is one of two rookie-listed Ivanhoe players on the Magpies VFL list this year.
The other is key forward Billy Drake, who top-scored with seven goals in a 30-point win over finals aspirant MHSOB.
