The Miles family name is synonymous with Ivanhoe. Arthur Miles was playing at the club during the 1920s and stayed on as a committman for 30 years, his sons Reg and John followed during the 1950s, and Reg’s son Geoff was at the club before being recruited to Collingwood in 1982. Another son Gary was a trainer for many years. Reg was a fearless ruckman in the club’s only A grade premiership in 1956, and continued to serve as a junior coach and committeeman most of his life.

John Miles (seen waving the flags at left) has also served in every capacity off-field, as well as being a VAFA life member for his work at league level, and he continues to help out.

Other legends include the late Harry Thomas, a former player who was the prime mover in getting the club back on the park after World War II. Harry was a life-long servant of the club, doing everything from being president to timekeeping in the 2008 grand final.

The late Ida Marcon was probably the club’s most famous supporter. She was a fanatical “umbrella lady” who taunted opposition players for nearly 50 years until her death in 1990.
